Do you SEE all that DETAIL?

Have you done this?    Could you?

I am going to join the Pinterest fan club!!!
Just waiting for my invite...

Just why have I waited so long?!
Could it be that I just
knew better?

I've spent half the morning gazing
at all that is beautiful.

I better go spend time with The Mr. before he has to
head back to San Diego for the work week.

By "spend time" I mean get him started on the
'Honey Do" list.

                                        1. put up curtain rods
                                        2. hang  a mirror
                                        3. hang pictures
                                        4. install earthquake stuff
                                        5. fix delicious dinner

But wait...

Don't forget to check out the Bunny Hop Party!
I haven't had many comments about it...
Sort of lost my momentun after that year long break I took.
(sniff)

I guess it isn't easy getting a new party
up and "hopping"!

ALSO...

I would very much appreciate if you would
take a button home to share for just a bit.

I redid the button so that it is not hopping up and down.
Cute as that is at first, I'm sure it could get annoying.

(scroll down the box to get the complete code)

If you prefer the Hopping Bunny Button then go here.

The party is on Wednesdays and will be open
to link up on every Tuesdays at noon.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

Sunday Song Party

I have a dear friend in Australia who is
hosting a Sunday Song linky party.
{Her link will be at the end of this post}

Have you ever been so lucky as to have
visited the wonders of Australia!

I love to visit her blog and see how the
"other half " of the world lives.
{Maybe she thinks the same about the USA}

They are in the middle of Winter right now.
So of course they will be celebrating Christmas
during their Summer. Frosty has NO chance there!

Be sure to take a visit "Down Under" and see what
she is up to. I especially liked her Sunday Song
post today... and her featured song.

Suitcases sung by Dara McLean.

OH! But Wait!

Here is my contribution for her party.

It's a  "Song and Dance"
to promote my NEW blog party!!!
(turn on the sound then click here)

I hope you get a chuckle out of me looking foolish.
Can you tell which one is me?!

Please go here to learn about the party.
I'm going to need a little help getting this party
"hoppening".

XOXO
Have a great weekend!

Orange You Glad to See Me?

A Sofa Table Makeover.

Painted Black Writing Desk

This painted black sofa table,
turned writing desk, was not always so happy.

There was a time it felt ignored and quite lonely.
In fact I turned my head away every time I entered the room.

"But 'orange' you glad to see me?"
NO!

I did feel a little sad. Really.
We had once been madly in love.
But things had changed in our relationship.
I had gone in a different direction.

I wanted to say,
"It's not you... it's me",
but that just wasn't true.

It sill had some very nice qualities.
A makeover was in order...
and it wasn't going to be me!

With some hard work this relationship
was going to be saved.
I would end up with the desk of my dreams.

Of course it wasn't easy.
Something worth saving never is...

It took some hard work.

As you can see I spray painted it.

I used a semi gloss black spray paint.
Lightly sanded it first, and didn't use a primer.
I rubbed it down with a fine steel wool because
it was too shiny and I wanted to distress it a little.

I guess it wasn't really that hard after all.

So... I was feeling the love again.

The chair also got a makeover.

Texas "Cottage" Home

This picture was taken last year in our Texas home.
I have more pictures, of that home,
to share in future posts.

It will be interesting to see how I transition my furnishings to this new home in Palm Desert, Ca.

Desert Great Room

So far it has not been easy.

See That Bunny Hop!!!

This post has revised information on my
new party called The Bunny Hop.

I have included directions for getting the html code
for sharing a picture. It is at the bottom of this post.

If you missed the first post, then I am glad
you came to visit me today!

This party will be a showcase for "newish" bloggers. It will be
a fun way for new bloggers to find other new bloggers.

New bloggers are the ones
most likely to "follow"  other blogs.

I am looking for bloggers that have 5oo hundred followers or less.
(Give or take... I'm easy.)

I plan on holding this party every Wednesday
starting on August 3rd.

If you are interested in participating, please let me know
in the comment box at the bottom of  this post.

You may also want to "follow" me so that
you will see when to sign up for the party.

I am looking forward
to meeting you!

P.S. I would appreciate if you would
take my Hopping Bunny button home.

{Established bloggers are more than welcome
to also share this button as I want to get the word out!}

That way other newbies
can join in the fun!

How to get the code.
(if you have a Google blogspot blog)

Just highlight the Hopping Bunny
"code" below, then right click to copy.

(Be sure to scroll down to get the complete code)

Then go to your dashboard... and then click on "design".
Now click on the "get gadget" button on you side bar.

When the google gadget page comes up,
just scroll down to the HTML gadget.

Put the copied code in the white box and don't forget
to fill in the title and other information.

After you click "save" it will show up on your side bar.
Then "grab" it and move to where you want it on your sidebar.

See you soon!

Did you just by chance notice my "New Look"?

I hope I can make a collage for the header.

This one is kind of "shouting" at us...
and kind of BIG!

Mother's 100th Birthday

Good Morning Mary Sunshine!

Baby Kathryn 1911

That is what my mother would say to me as her morning greeting,
especially if I had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed.
"Good Morning Mary Sunshine".
Oh how that irritated me as I got older.
I feel sad thinking about that now...

I also remember a favorite song of hers, "You Are My Sunshine".
That was the first song I learned to play on the electric organ.

We're talking 1962 here, thank goodness it wasn't the accordion...
Like my brother Billy!

Billy

She wanted her children to be happy.
I know she rarely was. Life had been difficult for her.
Losing her mother at just 13 and not being able to go off to college,
as her two siblings had.  She was a child of the Great Depression.

Mother's father had lost a leg in a rollover accident.
A wagon rollover. The mule pulling the wagon lay on it's side
(in the ditch for hours) and didn't move until help came.
If it had moved it would have killed my grandfather.

My mother, aunt, and uncle.

After that my grandmother went back to college, and got another degree so she could support her family. She became one of the very first female doctors in Washington State. That was a real accomplishment (for a woman) at the turn of the century.

Dr. Sarah Gibson

Her career didn't last long. She died after a car accident (no seat belts back then).
She was sent into surgery and never came out.

My mother found out at school... on her first day of 8th grade.
Not a good start to the new school year.
The picture below shows her a few years later with her very stylish "Flapper" hairdo.

Kathryn age 16

Mother didn't get to go to college as her brother and sister had.   The Depression had made that impossible.
She worked and put herself through nursing school.
That was not her choice but what was available.

I am sad to say I have no idea what she had aspired to be.
I do know that she was artistic and loved poetry.

Kathryn at Nursing School Graduation

Mother (as I had called her ever since becoming a sullen preteen) was born in 1911.
She had me late in life. A surprise at 40.
I think maybe it was also a slight embarrassment.

She was a R.N. and worked on the maternity ward.
She worked her shift the day I was born. I think she needed to
as she was working full time to help support the family.

She did the best she could...

She would have been 100 years old today.
She died three years ago at 97.

Kathryn age 97

I hesitate somewhat to show this last picture.
Mother was slightly vain about her looks.
Saddened about the fact that she lost her beauty early on.
That's what a hard life can do to you.

Happy Birthday Mother.

It was hard, but I did love you.

This song is for you.

xoxo
Bunny Jean
